Skeptics may have thought Rick Lattin of Lattin Farms was a few ears of corn short of a bushel when he decided to construct a maze in his cornfield as an attraction to draw visitors. But, with the familiar phrase “If you build it, they will come” guiding his efforts, Rick Lattin constructed a five-acre “living crop” corn maze in the shape of Nevada on his farm. And proved those skeptics wrong!
Nearly 170,000 people have visited the maze since 1998. “We had visitors from 20 different states and five different countries that first year,” Rick Lattin said. “And the publicity we received was overwhelming.”
The maze theme for 2011 is still being planned. One thing is for sure, though. The maze will delight and entertain thousands who come to the farm between late August and the end of October.
Lattin Farms is Nevada’s first and oldest tourism ag business. The farm includes an indoor fruit and vegetable stand, a country kitchen where the famous Lattin Farms specialty breads and jams are made, picnic area, and critterville petting zoo.
Lattin Farms hosts a Fall Festival every year in October that features a pumpkin patch, scarecrow factory, the corn maze, Goat Days, and plenty of fun for families.
